FORTHCOMING - possibly ... This year we aim to stage our Bi-Annual Convention in November alongside our Design Awards process, judging, and awards. There are RIAS Committees to input into from our region alongside Doors Open Days, Inverness Design Review panel, monthly BIM Group, our digital presence, and hopefully a Student Group ... but ... we can only achieve this with time and effort. Anyone can be President!

I hope to see you at the AGM - or you are welcome to send apologies to be noted.

The IAA is the northernmost Chapter (Area organisation) of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) and represents all Chartered Architects living and working in the North of Scotland, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland Islands. This represents by far the largest geographical area of any RIAS Chapter and because of the large geographical areas involved, a prime function of IAA is to enable, maintain and improve lines of communication between its members, the RIAS in Edinburgh, associated professions and the public generally.

Our members (in excess of 230 over the whole IAA area) are represented by a Council of Members which meets monthly in Inverness and occasionally in the Chapter regions. The Council is a link between the membership and the wider profession and is integrally involved, through its President and committee representatives, in national policy development, professional development and other matters pertinent to the Architectural profession as a whole.

The experience and ability of members in the Chapter area is extremely extensive, with individuals and practices available to handle all project types from the smallest domestic extensions to the most prestigious of commercial or public buildings. Because our members live and work in the Chapter area they know well the Planning and Public Authorities with which detailed liaison is required to bring building projects to completion; the environmental and climatic issues involved; and crucially - are locally based and therefore on hand and available to ensure that projects run timeously and smoothly.

The IAA website provides details of our members throughout the Chapter area; updates you on news and events; up to the minute information on the IAA Highlands and Islands awards for Architecture, an exciting initiative which will be launched in 2008; and provides key links to the RIAS, RIBA and a range of Architecturally related providers. If you need specific information, have any query regarding our services or any comment on the Chapter or Architecture in the Highlands and Islands please contact us.
